Cleveland C57171 M8 Spiral Point Tap

The Cleveland C57171 is a high speed steel spiral point tap designed for creating M8x1.25 metric threads. Its plug style and bright uncoated finish suit general purpose threading tasks in through hole applications.

Suited for through hole metric threading only

This tap suits machinists and maintenance technicians cutting new M8 threads in through holes where chip evacuation forward is required. It is not for blind hole work where chips must be pulled upward or for left hand thread requirements.

M8x1.25 thread size with D5 limit

The single specification that decides fit is the M8x1.25 thread size combined with a D5 thread limit for a 6H class of fit. Verify the hole uses a 75 percent thread drill size H before tapping.

Questions about this item

How much heat or vibration does the M8x1.25 spiral-point tap generate during extended production runs?

The high-speed steel body and bright finish run cool with light cuts; two flutes evacuate chips forward so torque stays low even after hours of continuous threading.

What drill bit must I already own to prepare the hole for this M8x1.25 tap?

Use a 75-percent thread drill size H to match the D5 limit and 6H class of fit specified for this tap.

Will the 69.09 mm overall length fit my older tapping head or CNC tool holder?

The 69.09 mm length and standard M8x1.25 shank suit most legacy holders; the 17.53 mm thread length clears shallow holes on vintage workpieces.
