A 4-flute carbide square end mill with a .625 in diameter and 1.25 in length of cut for general-purpose milling
This Cleveland C61907 is a 4-flute square end mill made from solid carbide for general-purpose milling. The .625 inch cutting diameter and 1.25 inch length of cut suit slotting and profiling in steel, cast iron and non-ferrous alloys. The straight shank matches a 5/8 inch holder for direct mounting in a milling chuck or collet. Uncooked carbide keeps the edge sharp for short runs and low-volume work.
Carbide conducts heat away from the cutting zone faster than high-speed steel, so the flutes stay cooler during continuous cuts. The uncoated surface avoids the insulation effect of some coatings, letting chips carry heat out of the slot. Four flutes spread the load, reducing peak force on each tooth and lowering spindle power demand per revolution. No internal coolant passages means the tool relies on flood or mist coolant from the machine.
The solid carbide body resists deflection better than steel shank tools, holding tighter tolerances on deep pockets. A straight 5/8 inch shank fits standard ER collets and Weldon flats without adapters. Square end geometry leaves a flat bottom, useful for roughing and finishing passes without tool changes. Non-coolant-through design simplifies setup on machines without through-spindle coolant. Uncoated finish means no coating wear to monitor, just resharpen when the edge dulls.

Insert the .625 in shank fully into a matching collet or end-mill holder, then tighten the drawbar or collet nut to the machine's specified torque; the step often missed is verifying the shank seats completely against the internal stop before locking.
The cutting edges will dull and require professional resharpening or replacement; no coating replenishment is possible because the tool is supplied uncoated.
Heat buildup in the uncoated carbide flutes typically becomes the limiting factor before tool deflection, especially when cutting at full 1.25 in depth without coolant-through capability.
