Cobalt spiral-flute tap cuts M12 × 1.25 threads in blind holes with three flutes and a 40 mm thread length
The Cleveland C98144 is a spiral flute tap designed for creating M12x1.25 metric threads in a variety of materials. Its semi-bottoming configuration and three-flute geometry suit machinists and maintenance technicians who require reliable internal threading performance.
As a non-powered hand tool accessory, this tap generates no operational heat, noise, or electrical power draw during use. Performance depends entirely on the driving machine and cutting parameters selected by the operator for the specific application.
The cobalt substrate provides enhanced hardness and wear resistance compared to standard high-speed steel taps. A black oxide finish helps retain cutting fluid and reduces galling, extending tool life when threading stainless steel or other tough alloys.

Use a proper tap wrench, keep the tap perpendicular to the workpiece, apply steady pressure with cutting fluid, and reverse frequently to clear chips from the 3 flutes.
Replace when threads show excessive wear, chipping on the 3 flutes, or when the 6H class of fit can no longer be held in the M12x1.25 thread profile.
Heat buildup in the cobalt body and chip packing in the 40 mm thread length are the first limits during sustained use.
