Cuts 1/4-18 NPT threads in pipe and conduit using a carbon-steel hex die
The Cleveland Golf C65572 is a hex-shaped pipe die made from carbon steel. It is designed for rethreading damaged threads on pipes and conduits. Professional plumbers and maintenance technicians use it to restore NPT connections. The tool suits workshop and field repair tasks.
Carbon steel provides the hardness needed for cutting threads in metal pipe. The hex profile allows the die to be driven with a standard wrench or socket. Normal use generates typical hand-tool resistance without excessive force. No power source or lubrication system is required.
The die cuts right-hand threads at 18 threads per inch to the NPT standard. Its 5/8 inch thickness fits the corresponding die stock or holder. The hex shape prevents rounding during high-torque application. It is not suited for left-hand threads or other thread standards.

Insert the hex die into a matching die stock, tighten the set screws evenly, then start the cut square to the pipe using cutting oil; the step often missed is applying steady pressure while keeping the die perpendicular to avoid tapered threads.
Clean chips after each use, coat the cutting edges with light oil to prevent rust, and resharpen or replace the die when threads become rough or undersized on 18 threads-per-inch NPT work.
Heat buildup in the carbon steel die dulls the cutting edges fastest during sustained threading, so pause to let the die cool and reapply cutting fluid every few joints.
