A rigid carbon-steel shaft coupling joining 3/4 in and 5/8 in round bores, rated to 4,000 RPM and 1,540 in-lb torque
This Climax Metal Products rigid shaft coupling connects two shafts in a fixed alignment for power transmission applications. The one-piece carbon steel construction handles a maximum torque of 1,540 in-lb at speeds up to 4,000 RPM. It suits maintenance teams and original equipment manufacturers who need a permanent, backlash-free connection between round shafts of different diameters.
The solid carbon steel body conducts heat away from the joint without any moving parts that generate friction noise. Power draw is determined solely by the driven load, with the coupling rated to transmit up to 1,540 in-lb continuously at 4,000 RPM. No lubrication is required, so there are no contamination or maintenance cycles that affect thermal performance.
The one-piece carbon steel design provides high stiffness and resistance to wear in industrial environments. Two different round bore sizes accommodate shafts of 5/8 in and 3/4 in, while a clearance diameter of 1.81 in allows assembly over shaft shoulders or keys. The absence of keyways means torque transfers through friction fit, requiring precise shaft tolerances and proper fastening methods during installation.

Slide each shaft into its bore until the keyway aligns, then tighten both set-screws evenly; the step often missed is checking that the 1.81 in clearance diameter does not hit nearby guards before final torque.
Inspect the set-screw threads and keyway fit every few months; replace the coupling if the carbon steel shows cracking or if run-out exceeds the original 1.81 in clearance.
The 1,540 in-lb torque rating is reached before the speed limit, so sustained loads above that value will cause slip or damage first.
