Range and security

The CompuStar 2WQ9R-FM is a 2-way LCD remote for vehicle security and remote-start systems. It communicates with compatible control modules using FM transmission with 128-bit encryption. The handset suits drivers who want long-range lock, unlock and engine-start confirmation from a single device.

Power and environment

The remote runs on replaceable AAA cells rated for up to 63 days of typical use. It is not water-resistant, so exposure to rain or moisture should be avoided. No active cooling or external power draw is involved; the unit operates silently in normal conditions.

Build and daily use

A colour LCD screen and five tactile buttons provide lock, unlock and 2.5-second hold remote-start functions. The housing is designed for handheld operation and key-ring attachment. Buyers needing waterproof construction or integrated key-blade compatibility should consider other options.

Questions about this item

How do I pair this remote with a CM-900X control module, and what step do installers often miss?

Program the remote to the CM-900X using the vehicle's ignition cycle sequence, then press and hold the start button for 2.5 seconds to confirm two-way communication; skipping the hold step leaves the remote unpaired.

What maintenance will this remote need and how often?

Replace the AAA batteries approximately every 63 days; the battery compartment opens without tools for quick user-friendly maintenance.

At what distance does the FMX signal typically drop first during sustained use?

The 128-bit encrypted FMX link is rated for up to 3000 feet; range decreases first when the antenna or control module line of sight is obstructed.
