Adds two eSATA ports to a laptop via a 32-bit CardBus slot with SATA 1.0 support
The CoolGear CGS-2ER adds two external Serial ATA ports to any notebook with a 32-bit CardBus slot. It targets users who need to connect eSATA storage peripherals to older mobile workstations lacking native SATA interfaces.
Each port runs at the 1.0 specification rate with 48-bit sector addressing and an independent DMA channel backed by a 256-byte FIFO. The single digital PLL serves both channels, and the Silicon Image chipset handles command buffering and spread-spectrum clocking for EMI reduction.
This card upgrades systems limited to parallel ATA adapters by providing a serial differential link with Gigabit signalling and 8b/10b encoding. The jump is worth it when the workflow demands eSATA connectivity and the host only offers a CardBus-32 expansion path.
