Front-Panel Card Reader and USB Hub
This 5.25 inch internal unit combines a multi-format card reader with three USB 3.0 Type-A ports, one USB 3.1 Type-C port and an eSATA port. It is designed for desktop builders who want front-panel access to memory cards and fast peripheral connections without reaching the rear I/O.
Bandwidth and Compatibility Limits
The USB 3.0 hub delivers up to 5 Gbps and remains backward compatible with USB 2.0, 1.1 and 1.0 devices. The card reader accepts SD, MMC, SDHC, CompactFlash types I and II, Memory Stick variants, xD, TF, M2 and MD media up to 64 GB capacity, but does not support SmartMedia cards.
Installation Notes
Mounting requires a free 5.25 inch drive bay and connection to both a USB 3.0 20-pin header and a USB 2.0 10-pin header on the motherboard. Common issues arise when the board lacks the 20-pin header or when the eSATA cable is left unconnected, leaving the port inactive.

Questions about this item
Which card formats does the built-in reader actually support?
The slot handles SD, MMC, SDHC, Compact Flash (including CF II and high-speed variants), Memory Stick, Memory Stick Duo, Memory Stick Pro, xD, TF/T-Flash and M2 cards.
What does the 5 Gbps USB 3.0 rating mean for everyday file transfers?
It sets the peak bandwidth for the three front Type-A ports and the Type-C port; real-world speeds depend on the drive and motherboard header but will not exceed that ceiling.
Which motherboard headers are required for the eSATA and USB 3.0 ports to function?
A USB 3.0 20-pin header and a USB 2.0 10-pin header must be connected; the eSATA port relies on the USB 3.0 header for its link.
