Connects an mSATA SATA SSD via USB 3.0 with plug-and-play support for Windows 2000 through 8 and Mac OS 7.0+
The Corn Electronics enclosure adapts a single mSATA solid-state drive to a USB 3.0 connection. Its aluminium shell acts as a heatsink while keeping the unit compact. Power is drawn entirely from the host port, so no external adapter is required. The device is plug-and-play on Windows 2000 through 8 and Mac OS 7.0 and above.
Builders who want a lightweight way to read or clone an mSATA module will find it convenient. It cannot accept SATA mini PCIe, PATA mini PCIe or RAID mini PCIe cards, so owners of those form factors need a different adapter. The single-bay design also rules out multi-drive spanning or hardware RAID setups.
The enclosure tops out at the 5 Gbps signalling rate of USB 3.0, which sets the practical throughput ceiling for any drive installed inside. If the host port cannot supply the full 1 A the specification allows, the drive may not be recognised until a USB 2.0 port is tried at reduced speed.

The aluminum shell acts as the heatsink and runs very hot during sustained SSD operation — this is normal and requires no maintenance.
The USB 3.0 port is rated at 1 A; if the host cannot supply enough current the SSD will not be recognised or will throttle to lower speeds.
The enclosure becomes very hot to the touch as the case dissipates heat from the mSATA SSD; it has no fan so it stays silent.
