DOD Military CAC Smart Card Reader

The Corn Electronics vertical USB reader handles Common Access Card and government ID authentication for Windows and macOS systems. It supports ISO 7816 Class A, B and C cards at 5 V, 3 V and 1.8 V for secure login and digital signature tasks.

USB CCID interface limits use to contact smart

The device requires a standard USB port and driver installation from the included CD. It does not support Chrome OS and needs manual installer launch on Mac OS X after closing the autorun window.

Replaces older contact readers for government

The jump is worth it when moving from a non-CCID or single-voltage reader that cannot handle Class A, B and C cards together. Buyers needing contactless or NFC card support should look elsewhere.

Questions about this item

Which version of this reader should I pick?

Only the vertical gloss-black desktop model is offered, so no capacity or version choice is needed.

What does the ISO 7816 Class A, B and C rating mean when I plug it in?

It confirms the reader powers 5 V, 3 V and 1.8 V smart cards, covering virtually every contact card used for government ID, banking or digital signatures.

What USB standard does it use and what does that limit?

The reader is a USB CCID device; it draws power and exchanges APDU commands over the USB bus, so speed is limited by the USB link and the card’s own clock rate, not by a separate interface.
