Creative BT-W5 transmitter

The Creative BT-W5 is a compact Bluetooth 5.3 audio transmitter that plugs into a USB Type-C port and streams 24-bit / 96 kHz audio to wireless headphones or speakers. It targets PC, Mac and console users who want high-resolution wireless sound without a built-in Bluetooth radio. The device stores up to four paired headsets and switches between them with a single button press.

Bluetooth 5.3 and aptX Adaptive limits

Bluetooth 5.3 provides the wireless link while aptX Adaptive dynamically adjusts bitrate to maintain stability in busy radio environments. The codec can prioritise either higher audio quality or lower latency depending on the content, but the final bitrate and latency depend on the capabilities of the receiving headset. Audio quality will fall back to the best common codec if the headphones do not support aptX Adaptive.

Plug-in installation and common issues

The transmitter draws 5 V power directly from the USB-C port and requires no separate supply; driver-free operation means it appears as a standard audio device on most systems. The multifunction button toggles device switching and Hands-free Profile mode for voice chat, while the Creative app manages remembered devices and codec priority. Users sometimes find the tiny 1 in x .6 in x .3 in form factor easy to misplace or accidentally unplug.

Should I choose the USB-C model or another connector for my laptop?

The transmitter uses a USB Type C connector, so it plugs directly into any USB-C port on a PC, Mac or console.

What does 24-bit / 96 kHz mean when I'm actually gaming?

It delivers high-resolution audio streaming at that sample rate, and aptX Adaptive dynamically adjusts bitrate to keep quality consistent while you play.

How does Bluetooth 5.3 affect latency and codec selection?

Bluetooth 5.3 works with aptX Adaptive to automatically pick the best supported codec and can prioritise low latency for gaming or high quality for music via the Creative app.
