Firestop Sealant for Building Penetrations

DAP 18858 is an intumescent acrylic sealant supplied in a 10.1 oz cartridge. It expands when exposed to fire to seal gaps around penetrations. The formulation is rated for use on concrete, fiberglass, plastic and wood substrates. This product meets the ASTM E814 (UL 1479) standard for through-penetration firestop systems.

For Firestop Contractors and Maintenance Teams

This sealant suits professionals who need a paintable, red-coloured firestop caulk for through-penetrations in fire-rated assemblies. It is not intended for general weatherproofing or structural bonding applications. Installers who require a non-intumescent acoustic or silicone-based product should select a different chemistry.

ASTM E814 (UL 1479) Firestop Rating

The decisive specification is the ASTM E814 (UL 1479) classification confirming performance in through-penetration fire tests. This rating determines whether the sealant satisfies the firestop schedule for a specific wall or floor assembly. Verify the tested system details against your project requirements before purchase.

Questions about this item

Which size of this intumescent acrylic sealant should I choose?

The cartridge holds 10.1 oz of sealant, which is the only capacity offered for this product.

What does the fire-resistant rating mean when the sealant is applied in a building joint?

The sealant meets ASTM E814 (UL 1479), meaning it expands when exposed to fire to seal gaps and maintain the fire rating of the assembly.

What standard governs the cartridge interface and what does it limit in practice?

The 10.1 oz cartridge fits standard caulking guns, and the ASTM E814 standard caps the tested fire-resistance performance of the installed sealant.
