Converts an SFP fibre port to a 1000BASE-T copper uplink at 1000 Mbps over 100 m
The D-Link DGS-712 converts an SFP fiber port into a 1000BASE-T copper uplink over standard twisted-pair cabling. It supports 10/100/1000 Mbps speeds up to 100 meters and is hot-pluggable for live installation. The module draws 3.3 V typical power and operates from 0 to 85 °C. A second DGS-712 enables 1.25 Gbps bi-directional throughput.
This transceiver suits network engineers adding copper links to switches or routers with SFP slots that expose an SGMII interface without clocks. Builders whose equipment only provides a SERDES interface should look elsewhere, as the module will then lock to 1000BASE-T only and cannot negotiate 10/100 speeds.
The DGS-712 comfortably handles Gigabit Ethernet runs to 100 meters over Cat5e or better copper. It runs out of reach beyond that distance or when the host lacks the required SGMII PHY access via I2C for full 10/100/1000 negotiation.

The host system needs an SGMII interface with no clocks; a SERDES interface limits the transceiver to 1000BASE-T only.
Yes, it is compatible with all standard 1000BASE-T twisted-pair copper cabling using the RJ-45 port.
Check the link LED for a steady 1000 Mbps connection and verify the PHY registers via I2C for error-free status.
