4G LTE Cat 4 Modem Bridge

The D-Link DWM-311-B1 is a compact modem bridge that shares a 4G LTE Cat 4 connection with M2M devices through a single Gigabit Ethernet port. It targets integrators deploying vending machines, ATMs, POS terminals, digital signage and surveillance systems where wired broadband is unavailable or impractical.

Cat 4 speed ceiling and SIM constraint

The LTE Cat 4 interface caps downstream throughput at 150 Mbps, so the Gigabit port will never be saturated by the cellular link. Only one micro-SIM slot is provided, preventing dual-carrier failover at the hardware level, and the micro-USB power input limits supply options to 5 V DC sources.

Industrial temperature range and mounting headroom

A zinc-plated steel enclosure rated from -30 to 60 °C gives installers headroom for outdoor cabinets, vehicle installations and unheated retail spaces. The small 2.7 by 3.05 by 1.02 inch form factor fits tight DIN-rail or wall-mount locations, but the single Ethernet port and single SIM slot restrict expansion for sites needing redundant uplinks or multiple segmented networks.

Questions about this item

Should I pick this unit for a fixed M2M installation or a portable setup?

The zinc-plated steel case is built for permanent wall or DIN-rail mounting in harsh environments, making it suited to fixed M2M deployments rather than portable use.

What real-world throughput can I expect from the Cat 4 link?

The LTE Cat 4 modem tops out at 150 Mbps downstream, so actual speeds will depend on carrier signal and network load but will not exceed that figure.

Does the Gigabit Ethernet port limit the 4G connection in any way?

The local port is Gigabit, so it will not bottleneck the 150 Mbps LTE link; the 4G connection remains the throughput ceiling.
