Datalogic Magellan 800i desktop scanner

The Datalogic Magellan 800i is a corded omnidirectional imager that reads 1D and 2D barcodes through a USB connection. Its white housing measures 5.90" x 3.00" x 4.30" and weighs 10.80 oz. The scan engine resolves codes down to 5 mils and covers a field of view from 0" to 6.0" depending on symbology and density.

Ideal for space-obliged counters

This scanner suits retailers or offices that need hands-free 1D and 2D capture at a fixed station with a USB port. It is not for operators who require wireless mobility, Bluetooth pairing, or a rugged housing rated for harsh industrial environments.

Check USB port availability and mounting space

Verify that the host system has a free USB port for the corded interface. Confirm the 5.90" x 3.00" footprint fits the intended counter area and that the 0" to 6.0" working range matches the typical barcode distance at the point of use.

Questions about this item

What type of USB port does the Magellan 800i MG08-014121-0040 need to operate?

It connects through a standard USB interface on the host computer or notebook and draws power from that port, so no separate power supply is required.

Can the scanner read barcodes displayed on a legacy CRT monitor?

The 2D/1D imager reads codes from 0 to 6.0 inches at 13 mil UPC and 0 to 5.0 inches at 10 mil PDF417, so screen codes within those ranges will scan.

How do I verify the scanner is decoding correctly after plugging it in?

Open a text editor, scan the test barcode from the quick-start guide, and confirm the data appears instantly; the white LED will also flash green on each good read.
