Mechanical Flowmeter for Diesel and Oils
The Dayton 12F730 is a mechanical flowmeter designed to measure diesel and oils within a flow range of 5 to 32 gpm. It connects via a 1 inch FNPT fitting and operates at pressures up to 145 psi. The aluminum housing and Buna-N seals handle media temperatures from -10 to 140 degrees F. Accuracy is rated at +/-1 percent across the operating range.
Sustained Operation Within Rated Limits
During continuous use the meter maintains its stated accuracy provided the fluid viscosity stays below 9,400 SUS and temperatures remain inside the -10 to 140 degree F window. The mechanical display requires no external power so readings remain available as long as flow persists. Exceeding the maximum pressure of 145 psi or the viscosity limit will degrade performance and can damage internal components.
Installation Notes and Common Issues
The 1 inch FNPT connection threads directly into compatible piping using standard sealant or tape; no electrical wiring is needed for the mechanical readout. Ensure the flow direction matches the body arrow and that the line is purged of air before commissioning. The most frequent issues arise from debris entering the meter or operating with fluids above the 9,400 SUS viscosity limit, which causes the mechanism to bind or read low.

Questions about this item
Does the mechanical display stay readable when the 145 psi maximum operating pressure is reached all day?
The mechanical display is designed for continuous operation up to the rated 145 psi maximum operating pressure without loss of readability.
What pipe thread must my existing plumbing provide for the 1 in FNPT connection?
The flowmeter requires a 1 inch female NPT thread on the mating pipe for a direct connection.
Will the Buna-N seals handle the 140 °F maximum media temperature if I keep my older diesel lines?
Buna-N seals are rated for the full -10 °F to 140 °F media temperature range specified for diesel and oil compatibility.
