Dual run capacitor for motor start and run circuits rated at 35/5 MFD and 370 V AC
The Dayton 2MDX8 is a dual run capacitor rated at 35/5 MFD and 370 V AC, designed to support both the start and run windings of single-phase AC motors. It suits HVAC technicians and maintenance staff who need a direct replacement for compressors or fan motors in residential and light-commercial equipment. Buyers who require a different microfarad combination or a higher voltage rating will need another part.
The aluminium case dissipates heat generated during continuous motor operation, keeping internal temperature rise within design limits for 370 V AC service. No active cooling is required and the component operates silently once installed. Power consumption is limited to the reactive current needed for phase shift, so it adds negligible real load to the circuit.
The oval aluminium can measures 4 3/4 in overall height and carries a transparent finish for visual inspection of terminals. Two sets of spade terminals are moulded into the cover, allowing straightforward wiring to common and fan leads without special tools. The mounting bracket fits standard capacitor clips, so the unit secures in existing control-box cutouts with no modification.

Connect the common terminal to the motor common lead, the 35 µF terminal to the compressor or main winding, and the 5 µF terminal to the fan winding; swapping the two microfarad leads is the most frequent error.
Plan to replace the capacitor when the motor shows hard starting, overheating, or the measured capacitance drifts more than ten percent from the rated 35/5 µF values.
The 370 V AC rating is the ceiling; sustained voltage above that level will degrade the dielectric before temperature or ripple current becomes the limiting factor.
