2 hp Sewage Ejector Pump
The Dayton 4HU88 is a 2 hp sewage ejector pump built for residential and light commercial waste removal. Its cast iron body and impeller handle raw sewage with solids up to 2 inches in diameter. A hermetically sealed, oil-filled motor runs on 240V AC single-phase power at 15.00 amps. No switch is included so the installer chooses the control method.
20 ft Head Performance Upgrade
This unit replaces smaller ejector pumps that cannot maintain usable flow at 20 feet of head. The jump is worth it when the discharge point sits high above the basin or the pipe run adds significant friction loss. At 20 ft it still moves 165 gpm while lesser pumps drop off sharply. It also outperforms 1 hp models at 40 ft and 60 ft head.
165 gpm Capacity and Headroom
The pump comfortably handles typical residential sewage loads at 20 ft of head with 165 gpm flow. At 40 ft it delivers 120 gpm and at 60 ft it still moves 30 gpm. Beyond 60 ft of head the flow diminishes rapidly and the pump approaches its shut-off point. It is not suited for high-rise buildings or long force mains requiring sustained pressure above 60 ft.

Questions about this item
What size discharge pipe does the 2-inch solids rating require?
The pump handles solids up to 2 inches, so the discharge piping must be at least 2 inches in diameter to avoid clogging.
How do you wire the 240 VAC, 15-amp motor without a supplied switch?
Connect the motor leads directly to a dedicated 240 VAC circuit with a 15-amp breaker and install a separate float or pressure switch in the control circuit.
When should the carbon-ceramic shaft seal be inspected or replaced?
Inspect the seal annually for leakage; replace it if water appears in the oil chamber or if flow drops below the rated 165 gpm at 20 ft head.
