A 120V AC non-reversing magnetic contactor rated 30A inductive and 40A resistive for single-phase motor control up to 2 hp at 240V AC
The Dayton 6GNP4 is a definite-purpose magnetic contactor designed for single-phase control circuits. It operates on a 120V AC coil and provides non-reversing switching for inductive loads up to 30 A and resistive loads up to 40 A. The unit carries a NEMA open enclosure rating and transparent housing for visual inspection.
Installers wiring single-phase motor starters, compressors or resistive heating elements at 120 V or 240 V will find the 1 hp and 2 hp ratings appropriate. The contactor does not support reversing operation, so applications requiring forward and reverse motor control must select a different device. It also lacks tungsten and fluorescent lighting current ratings, limiting use with those specific lamp types.
The 120V AC coil voltage is the single specification that decides whether this contactor matches the control circuit; a 24 V or 240 V coil system cannot use this unit without a transformer. The 1-pole, non-reversing construction and open frame further define the installation constraints.

The unit carries a NEMA rating of No Enclosure so it must be installed inside a suitable panel or cabinet that provides the required environmental protection.
Apply 120 V AC to the two coil terminals and wire the load circuit through the single set of main contacts; the common error is swapping the coil leads with the power terminals.
Plan replacement when contact wear prevents reliable switching at the rated 30 A inductive or 40 A resistive loads, which typically shows as excessive voltage drop or overheating.
