A 250 watt subwoofer amplifier with variable low-pass filter from 40 to 180 Hz, switchable phase and bass boost at 35 Hz
The Dayton Audio SPA250 is a mono Class AB subwoofer amplifier designed to add low-frequency reinforcement to existing audio systems. It accepts both low-level and high-level inputs, allowing connection to virtually any source or receiver. Manual, auto, and triggered on/off modes simplify integration with automated setups. Energy-efficient standby draws less than one watt.
Measured output reaches 156 watts RMS into 8 ohms at .1 percent THD and 252 watts RMS into 4 ohms at under 1.0 percent THD. The damping factor sits at 114 at 100 Hz, indicating firm cone control. Switchable mains voltage covers 115 and 230 VAC at 50 or 60 Hz. Builders needing significantly more power into 2-ohm loads should consider other options.
A variable low-pass filter adjusts from 40 Hz to 180 Hz at 24 dB per octave, while a switchable subsonic filter provides 12 dB per octave high-pass at 20 Hz. Phase can be set to 0 or 180 degrees, and a 6 dB bass boost at 35 Hz is selectable. Speaker-level high-pass outputs operate at 6 dB per octave, approximately 180 Hz at 4 ohms and 90 Hz at 8 ohms.

The amplifier delivers 252 watts RMS into 4 ohms at less than 1.0% THD and 156 watts RMS into 8 ohms at 0.1% THD, so 4 ohms gives higher output.
Measured output is 252 watts RMS into 4 ohms at under 1.0% THD and 156 watts RMS into 8 ohms at 0.1% THD, so actual continuous power depends on the load you connect.
It has low-level and high-level inputs plus line-level full-bandwidth outputs for daisy-chaining, and speaker-level high-pass outputs at 6 dB/octave (180 Hz at 4 ohms, 90 Hz at 8 ohms).
