Square fire damper rated for 1-1/2 hour fire resistance with 165-degree fusible link for low-pressure HVAC systems
This square fire damper fits 16-inch nominal ducts and installs in horizontal orientations for low-pressure HVAC systems. The galvanised steel construction meets UL 555 and NFPA 80, 90A, 101 standards with a 1-1/2 hour fire rating. It is intended for commercial and residential builders who need code-compliant fire protection in ductwork. It is not for installers who require dynamic rated dampers or units certified for more than three hours of fire resistance.
The damper operates in a static configuration and relies on a 165-degree F fusible link to close during a fire event. Galvanised steel blades contain the spread of flame and smoke without powered actuators. Free area measures 1.257 square feet, allowing airflow while the link remains intact. No electrical connection or external power draw is involved in normal use.
A 2TGH7 retaining angle is recommended to secure the 22-gauge frame within the duct opening. The damper depth of 3-11/16 inches determines the required sleeve length for proper installation. No additional accessories, actuators or control modules are bundled with the unit.

Mount the damper horizontally in the duct opening using the recommended 2TGH7 retaining angles on all four sides; the step often missed is securing the angles to the structure per NFPA 80 so the assembly maintains its 1-1/2 hour fire rating.
Inspect the fusible link annually per NFPA 80; replace it if it shows corrosion, paint overspray, or has been exposed to temperatures near 165 °F, because a damaged link will not release the blades during a fire.
The damper is rated for low-pressure systems only; sustained pressure above the low-pressure classification will cause blade deflection and prevent full closure, compromising the 1-1/2 hour fire rating.
