A square fire damper for low-pressure HVAC ducts with a 1-1/2 hour fire rating and 165-degree fusible link
The Dayton square fire damper is a dynamic-rated component for vertical or horizontal installation in low-pressure HVAC systems. It features a 22-gauge galvanised steel construction with a 1-1/2 hour fire rating and a 165-degree F fusible link. The unit provides a free area of 1.640 sq. ft. for airflow.
This damper meets UL Standard 555 along with NFPA 80, 90A and 101, plus IBC, CSFM and NYC MEA standards. It replaces non-rated or lower-rated dampers where code requires a dynamic fire resistance rating of less than 3 hours. The jump is worth it when building inspections demand documented compliance with these specific standards.
The product suits contractors installing fire-rated ductwork in commercial buildings that require the listed certifications. Builders needing a different duct width, height or fire rating should look at other models. Those without low-pressure system requirements or the specified retaining angle may need alternative solutions.

It fits a nominal 18 In. by 18 In. duct opening; the damper itself measures 17-3/4 In. wide by 17-3/4 In. high.
Mount vertically or horizontally in the duct using the recommended 2TGH8 retaining angle; the step often missed is securing that angle on all four sides to maintain the 1-1/2 hr. fire rating.
Replace the 165 Degrees F fusible link after any fire exposure or if inspection per NFPA 80 shows damage or corrosion.
