Compatible Sony VAIO CMOS Battery

This lithium CMOS RTC battery is designed for the Sony VAIO PCG-5L2L laptop motherboard. It replaces the original BIOS backup cell that maintains system time and firmware settings when the main power is off. The part is supplied new and tested before shipping. It is not a main laptop battery and will not power the system for portable use.

Single Battery in Package

The package includes only one CMOS battery unit with no additional cables, brackets or software. Installation simply restores the motherboard ability to retain date, time and BIOS configuration across shutdowns. No driver or utility is required for the replacement to function.

Check Motherboard Model Before Ordering

Verify that your laptop uses the exact PCG-5L2L motherboard designation before purchase. This battery fits that specific board layout and connector; other VAIO models may use a different coin-cell type or pin arrangement. Buyers needing a main rechargeable battery pack or a different CMOS form factor should look elsewhere.

Questions about this item

How often will this CMOS battery need replacement in a Sony VAIO PCG-5L2L?

The lithium CMOS battery typically lasts several years; replacement is only needed when the system clock loses time or BIOS settings reset after the laptop is powered off.

What is the first limit that appears when this CMOS battery runs continuously in a Sony VAIO PCG-5L2L?

The practical limit is the battery's finite capacity; once depleted it can no longer maintain the real-time clock and CMOS memory, requiring a new cell.

Does this CMOS battery generate any noticeable heat or noise while the Sony VAIO PCG-5L2L runs all day?

No, a lithium CMOS cell operates passively with negligible self-heating and no moving parts, so it adds no audible noise or measurable warmth.
