Replacement CPU Fan for HP ENVY 17m-CG

This replacement CPU cooler is built for the HP ENVY 17m-CG laptop using part number L87961-001. It suits owners whose original fan has failed or become noisy. The unit operates at DC 5V with a 0.45A current draw. It restores factory cooling performance for this specific model.

Direct-Fit Design and Connector

The fan assembly matches the original EG50040S1-1C220-S9A form factor for a direct swap. Its connector aligns with the motherboard header without adapters. Each unit is tested before shipping to confirm function. Buyers should verify the part visually against photos before fitting.

Single-Fan Thermal Limit

A single centrifugal fan can only move a finite volume of air through the existing heatsink. Sustained heavy workloads may still push temperatures up if the chassis airflow is restricted. The cooler cannot overcome thermal limits set by the laptop's original heat-pipe design. Users needing lower temperatures under load would require a redesign the chassis cannot accept.

Will the EG50040S1-1C220-S9A cooler fit the mounting points on an HP ENVY 17m-CG chassis?

The cooler is built to the same screw-hole pattern and bracket shape as the factory L87961-001 unit for the 17m-CG series.

Which step do installers most often skip when swapping the CPU fan on this laptop?

After seating the fan, the cable must be routed under the retention clip and the connector fully seated before the bottom cover is replaced.
