Dell 600 GB 15K SAS drive

This 3.5 inch internal hard drive delivers 600 GB capacity with a 15000 RPM spindle and a 6 Gb/s SAS interface. A 64 MB buffer helps smooth burst traffic. It is built as an original Dell part for direct installation in compatible PowerEdge servers. ||

Suits high-transaction servers.

The 15K spindle targets workloads that demand low latency and high IOPS, such as database logs or virtualisation hosts. Buyers who need maximum terabytes per bay should look at larger-capacity drives instead. Systems without a SAS backplane or HBA cannot use this drive. ||

15000 RPM spindle speed decides fit

The 15000 RPM rotational speed is the single specification that determines whether this drive meets the performance profile of the intended workload. Lower-speed drives will not deliver the same random-access response.

Questions about this item

Does the 0B24496 drive include a mounting tray or caddy, or must I order that separately?

The drive is supplied as the bare 3.5" mechanism; Dell PowerEdge trays or caddies are not included and must be purchased separately if your chassis requires them.

My server only supports 6 Gb/s SAS — is the 15 000 RPM 0B24496 compatible or do I need a slower model?

The 0B24496 runs at 6 Gb/s SAS and 15 000 RPM, so it matches your controller speed; no slower model is required for compatibility.

Will the 600 GB capacity and 64 MB cache deliver the same throughput in a PowerEdge R710 as the rated 6 Gb/s interface suggests?

The 6 Gb/s figure is the interface ceiling; real-world throughput in an R710 depends on the RAID controller, workload and firmware, so sustained rates will be lower than the link speed.
