Drive Identity

The Dell 0JY57X is a 1.8TB 2.5" internal hard drive spinning at 10000 RPM with a SAS 12Gb/s interface and 128MB cache. It is built for 14th generation PowerEdge servers that support hot-swap bays.

Best-Fit Scenarios

Suits administrators adding high-speed capacity to compatible Dell arrays or replacing a failed drive in a RAID set that demands 10K SAS performance. Buyers whose controllers only accept SATA signalling or who need larger single-drive capacities should look elsewhere.

Deciding Specification

The SAS 12Gb/s interface is the single factor that determines compatibility; the drive will not operate on SATA-only backplanes or controllers lacking 12Gb/s SAS support.

Questions about this item

What controller or backplane do I need for the SAS 12Gb/s interface on this drive?

A SAS 12Gb/s controller or backplane with a compatible 2.5-inch drive bay is required to connect the drive.

Will the 10000 RPM speed cause compatibility issues with older 6Gb/s SAS expanders?

The drive supports 12Gb/s SAS and will negotiate down to 6Gb/s on older expanders, though sustained throughput will be limited to the slower link speed.

How can I verify the 128MB cache is active after installation?

Check the drive's reported cache size in the RAID controller BIOS or operating system device properties; it should show 128MB.
