A 1.2 TB SAS hybrid drive with a 2.5 inch form factor, 10K RPM speed and 12 Gbit/s interface, supplied with a compatible caddy for Dell PowerEdge servers
This new 1.2TB SAS hybrid drive spins at 10K RPM and uses a 12Gb/s interface in a 2.5-inch form factor. It ships with a compatible Dell caddy for direct installation in supported PowerEdge servers. The hybrid design blends rotating media with solid-state caching for improved response times.
The drive fits Dell PowerEdge models including the R240, R340, R440, R540, R640, R740, R740XD, R740XD2, R840, R250, R350, R450, R550, R650, R650XS, R6515, R6525, R750, R750XS, R7515, R7525, R360, R660XS, R6615, R6625, R760, R760XD2 and R760XS. It is not suited for systems that lack a 2.5-inch SAS bay or that require a different drive interface.
The single specification that determines fit is the 12Gb/s SAS connection. The server backplane and controller must support this interface and the 2.5-inch form factor for the drive to operate.

Slide the supplied caddy into a front 2.5" bay until the latch clicks, then connect the SAS backplane cable; the step often missed is securing the caddy screw so the drive cannot lift under vibration.
Mechanical 10K platters and the NAND cache both wear with write cycles; plan to replace the drive once SMART reallocated-sector count rises or latency spikes appear during sustained I/O.
The 10K spindle and NAND write-endurance ceiling hit first — sustained sequential writes saturate the cache and throttle to native platter speed, raising latency and temperature.
