Capacity and interface

This is a 1.2TB SAS hard drive spinning at 10K rpm with a 6G interface. It arrives in a 2.5 inch form factor and includes a compatible Dell caddy for direct installation. The drive is supplied new and carries a one-year warranty.

Server compatibility and exclusions

The caddy fits a wide range of Dell PowerEdge servers including the R210, R220, R230, R310, R320, R330, R410, R415, R420, R430, R510, R515, R530XD, R610, R620, R630, R710, R715, R720, R720XD, R730, R730XD, R805, R810, R815, R820, R830, R900, R905, R910, R920 and R930. Buyers needing a different form factor, a larger capacity or a non-SAS interface should look at other models.

Sustained workload behaviour

The 10K spindle speed and SAS 6G link deliver consistent throughput for mixed read and write workloads typical of database and virtualisation tasks. Mechanical latency remains stable during extended operations unlike burst-oriented flash devices. The drive is designed for continuous duty in multi-drive arrays.

Questions about this item

Do I need a SAS controller or backplane that supports 6 Gb/s for this 1.2 TB drive?

Yes — the drive uses a SAS 6 Gb/s interface, so the host controller or backplane must provide a SAS 6 Gb/s connection for it to operate.

Will the included caddy fit my PowerEdge R720 server?

The caddy is listed as compatible with the R720 among many other PowerEdge models, so it will fit that chassis.

How can I confirm the drive is running at 10 000 RPM after installation?

Check the drive’s reported rotational speed in the RAID controller BIOS or the operating system’s disk utility; it should show 10 000 RPM.
