  • 8 TB capacity stores large datasets on a single drive

  • SAS 12 Gbit/s interface provides high-throughput connectivity
  • 5 inch form factor fits dense server chassis
  • Supplied caddy fits a wide range of Dell PowerEdge servers

1.8 TB SAS 10K Drive

This new Dell hard drive delivers 1.8 TB of storage over a 12 Gbit SAS interface and spins at 10K rpm. It ships with a compatible caddy for direct installation in supported Dell PowerEdge servers. The 2.5-inch form factor fits standard hot-plug bays across the listed platforms.

Suits Dell PowerEdge maintenance

Administrators replacing a failed drive or expanding capacity in R210 through R930 series servers can use this part without adapter changes. Buyers who need a different capacity, a 3.5-inch form factor, or a non-SAS interface should look elsewhere.

12 Gbit SAS interface decides fit

The drive communicates at 12 Gbit SAS speeds, so the host controller and backplane must support that signalling rate. If the target system only negotiates at a lower SAS speed the drive will still function but not at its rated throughput.

Questions about this item

Does this 12G SAS drive need a SAS backplane and controller already installed in the server?

Yes, the drive uses a 12G SAS interface and must connect to a compatible SAS backplane and controller inside the server.

Will this 2.5" 10K drive fit in an older PowerEdge R610 that currently uses 3.5" bays?

The drive includes a Dell caddy designed for 2.5" bays in listed servers such as the R610; it will not fit a 3.5" bay without a separate adapter.

How can I confirm the 1.8TB drive is recognised at full speed after installation?

Check the RAID controller BIOS or OS disk utility — it should report the drive as 1.8TB capacity with a 12G SAS link speed.
