Dell 1.92 TB SAS SSD for servers

This Dell 1.92 TB SAS SSD fits a 2.5 inch bay and connects at 12 Gb/s. It is built for read-intensive workloads in compatible Dell servers and arrays. The drive ships with an R Series caddy for direct installation.

Suits read-heavy server roles

This drive suits database caching, virtualisation hosts and boot volumes that favour reads over writes. It is not for write-heavy logging, heavy video ingest or workloads that exceed its endurance rating. Buyers needing higher write endurance should look at a mixed-use or write-intensive model.

1.92 TB capacity with 12 Gb/s headroom

The 1.92 TB capacity holds operating systems, hypervisors and hot data sets with room for growth. The 12 Gb/s SAS link delivers throughput for multi-VM environments. The drive runs out of space when data sets exceed 1.92 TB and runs out of write cycles under sustained heavy write loads.

Questions about this item

What SAS controller or backplane do I need to run this 12Gb/s drive?

The drive requires a 12Gb/s SAS controller or backplane with a 2.5" bay; it will negotiate down to 6Gb/s or 3Gb/s if the host link is slower.

Will this 2.5" SAS SSD work in a server that only has 6Gb/s SAS ports?

Yes, the 12Gb/s interface is backward compatible and will operate at 6Gb/s on older SAS ports without any configuration change.

How can I verify the 1.92TB capacity and RI endurance rating after installation?

Check the drive model PX05SRB192Y in your RAID BIOS or OS disk utility; it should report 1.92TB and identify as a Read Intensive SAS SSD.
