Everyday Latitude 7490 laptop

The Dell Latitude 7490 is a 14.1-inch business notebook built around an Intel Core i7-8650U running at 1.90 GHz with 16 GB of DDR4 memory and a 512 GB SATA SSD. It ships with Windows 10 Pro 64-bit and includes a webcam and 802.11ac wireless. The unit is graded refurbished with little-to-no wear and comes with an AC adapter.

Connectivity and daily use

Three USB ports provide standard peripheral connections while integrated audio handles speakers and headset use. The non-touch display keeps the chassis simple and the integrated graphics suit office applications and media playback. An internal SATA 2.5-inch drive bay means storage upgrades stay straightforward without proprietary modules. Bluetooth is not included despite the series often offering it.

Check before ordering

Verify that Windows 10 Pro meets your software requirements as the OS is pre-installed and licensed for this hardware. Confirm that 16 GB of memory covers your workload since the board supports up to 32 GB if you plan to add more later. Ensure the three USB ports match your peripheral count and that the lack of Bluetooth fits your accessory setup.

Questions about this item

What practical speed limit does the SATA 2.5" 512GB SSD interface impose?

The SSD uses a SATA 2.5 inch connection, so read and write speeds are limited to the SATA interface maximum.

What physical drive bay and form factor does the 512GB SSD require to fit?

The drive is a 2.5 inch SATA SSD, so it fits a standard 2.5 inch laptop drive bay.

How is the SSD installed and which step is often missed?

Slide the 2.5 inch SATA SSD into the drive bay, secure it with the caddy screws, and connect the SATA data and power cables — the step often missed is fastening the caddy screws.
