3 TB SAS hard drive

This 3 TB hard drive uses a SAS interface and spins at 7200 RPM. The 3.5 inch form factor fits standard desktop drive bays. It is built for internal storage in compatible systems.

Who this suits and who it does not

The SAS interface suits servers and workstations that have a SAS controller or backplane. Desktop PCs with only SATA ports cannot use this drive without an adapter. Buyers who need a simple SATA drive for a consumer motherboard should look at a different model.

Interface determines compatibility

The drive connects through a 6 Gb SAS interface. A system must provide a SAS host bus adapter or a compatible RAID controller for the drive to function. Verify that the host hardware supports SAS before purchase.

Questions about this item

Will this 3.5" SAS drive fit a standard 3.5" drive bay in my Dell server?

Yes, the 14X4H uses a 3.5" form factor that matches standard 3.5" drive bays and backplanes designed for SAS drives.

What is the correct way to connect the 6G SAS interface during installation?

Attach the SAS data and power cables firmly to the drive's connector before sliding it into the bay; the step often missed is ensuring the SAS cable clicks into the backplane port.

How often should I check the 7200RPM drive's health and plan for replacement?

Monitor SMART attributes monthly and budget for replacement after five years of continuous operation, as 7.2K RPM mechanical drives degrade with age.
