  • 7200 RPM spindle speed for quick access
  • 64 MB cache to smooth burst workloads
  • SAS 6 Gb/s interface for reliable server connectivity

Dell 14X4H 3 TB SAS drive

This Dell 14X4H is a 3.5 inch internal hard drive with a 3 TB capacity and a 7200 RPM spindle speed. It connects through a SAS 6 Gb/s interface and includes a 64 MB cache buffer. The unit ships with a mounting tray for direct installation in compatible Dell bays.

SAS 6 Gb/s interface limits

The SAS 6 Gb/s link caps sustained throughput at the interface rate, so sequential transfers cannot exceed that bandwidth. Random I/O performance is bounded by the 7200 RPM rotational latency and the 64 MB cache size. Systems without a SAS host adapter or backplane cannot use this drive. Buyers needing higher throughput or lower latency should consider faster interfaces.

Questions about this item

Should I pick the 3TB version or a different capacity for my Dell server?

The Dell 14X4H is offered as a single 3TB model with the MG03SCA300 mechanism, so there is no alternative capacity to choose from.

How does the 7200RPM speed affect performance in a real SAS array?

At 7200RPM with a 6Gb/s SAS link and 64MB cache, the drive delivers consistent throughput for bulk storage and near-line workloads in a 3.5" bay.
