The Dell 186-1601-900 is a Ciena Waveserver Ai module built for 400G coherent optical transport in the C-Band. It serves network operators expanding dense wavelength-division multiplexing capacity on existing fiber infrastructure. The unit integrates eight high-baud EDFA ports alongside two 40GbE QSFP+ interfaces for line-side and client-side connectivity. It is designed exclusively for the Ciena Waveserver Ai chassis CAT-30034.

Sustained optical transport performance

The module delivers continuous 35 and 56 GBaud EDFA amplification across eight C-Band ports for long-haul and metro links. Its fixed, non-hot-swappable design means the chassis must be powered down for insertion or removal, ensuring stable thermal and optical alignment during prolonged operation. Both 400GbE and 40GbE ports maintain line-rate throughput without the thermal throttling seen in pluggable transceivers under constant load. Firmware is pre-updated for immediate deployment.

Chassis compatibility requirement

This part functions only inside a Ciena Waveserver Ai chassis CAT-30034; it will not operate in any other shelf, switch or router. Buyers who need a hot-pluggable QSFP-DD or OSFP transceiver for a third-party platform cannot use this module.
