Dell 24X Slimline Internal CDRW DVD Combo Drive

The Dell GK457 is a 24X slimline internal combo drive that reads and writes CDs and reads DVDs. It is built for Dell PowerEdge servers and workstations that still require optical media support for legacy software, firmware updates or archival tasks. The drive fits a standard slimline bay and connects through the server's internal interface. It suits administrators maintaining older infrastructure where an optical drive remains necessary.

Installation and common issues

The drive slides into a slimline 5.25-inch bay and secures with the server's existing rails or screws. A single data and power connector attaches to the motherboard or backplane. Installers sometimes find the bezel does not match the chassis front panel, so the original bezel may need to be retained. Firmware on very old systems may not recognise the drive without a BIOS update, and some operating systems require manual driver installation for writing functions.
