Standard 3.5-inch SAS hard drive with silver metal casing

DELL

DELL 2G4HM 2TB 3.5" SAS 7200RPM internal hard drive

SKU CH-HCTT-0AS3A MPN 2G4HM

A 2 TB 3.5" SAS desktop drive spinning at 7200 RPM for high-capacity internal storage

  • 2 TB capacity stores large desktop data sets
  • SAS interface delivers 6 Gb/s enterprise connectivity
  • 7200 RPM spindle speed supports sustained throughput
  • 5-inch form factor fits standard desktop bays
  • New condition ensures full manufacturer specification compliance

Capacity and interface

This 2 TB SAS hard drive operates at 7200 RPM in a standard 3.5-inch form factor. It connects through a 6 Gb/s SAS interface for direct attachment to compatible controllers. The drive is supplied new and intended for desktop or entry-level server storage tasks.

Suited for bulk storage not for boot or portable use

The mechanical design suits bulk data, backups and archival workloads where capacity per pound matters. It is not suited for operating-system boots that need low latency, for silent fanless builds, or for laptops and small-form-factor cases that only accept 2.5-inch drives.

SAS controller required

A host bus adapter or motherboard with native SAS ports is mandatory because the drive uses the SAS protocol and cannot communicate over SATA-only connectors. Without such a controller the drive will not be recognised by the system.

What SAS interface speed does the 2G4HM drive use, and what throughput does that cap at?

It uses a SAS 6 Gbit/s interface, which caps real-world throughput at the 6 Gbit/s link speed.

What drive bay and mounting dimensions does the 3.5-inch 2G4HM require?

It fits a standard 3.5-inch drive bay and uses the industry-standard 3.5-inch screw-hole pattern for mounting.

How is the 2G4HM installed in a desktop, and what step is often missed?

Slide it into a 3.5-inch bay, secure it with four screws, attach the SAS data cable and power connector, then ensure the controller detects the drive in BIOS.
