Dell 2RR9T 900 GB 10k SAS Drive

The Dell 2RR9T is a 900 GB internal hard drive with a 2.5 inch form factor. It connects through a SAS interface at 6 Gb/s and spins at 10000 rpm with a 64 MB cache. The unit is supplied new and is designed for desktop or server storage bays.

Suits High-IO Workloads, Not Capacity-First Builds

This drive suits administrators who need low-latency random access for databases, virtualisation or transaction logs. The 10k rpm spindle and SAS link deliver consistent throughput under sustained load. Buyers who want maximum capacity per bay or silent operation for a workstation should look at something else.

10000 rpm Spindle Speed

The single specification that decides fit is the 10000 rpm spindle speed. It determines the drive's average latency and random I/O ceiling, which are the primary reasons to choose this model over slower-spinning alternatives.

Questions about this item

Will the 2.5 inch SAS drive fit a standard 3.5 inch server bay?

The drive uses a 2.5 inch SFF form factor so it needs a 2.5 inch bay or a 3.5 inch adapter bracket to mount securely.

How do I connect the 6Gb/s SAS interface to the backplane?

Insert the drive into a SAS backplane or HBA port; the single SAS connector carries both power and data with no separate cables required.

When should I expect to replace the 10000 rpm 900 GB drive?

Enterprise 10000 rpm drives typically run 5 to 7 years; monitor SMART reallocated sectors and replace once the count rises steadily.
