A 24-bay 2.5-inch storage barebone with single controller and dual power supplies, supplied without disks or CPU
The Dell PowerEdge 3820F is a 2U rackmount barebones server designed exclusively for high-density storage. It provides twenty-four front-accessible 2.5-inch drive bays in a compact form factor. The unit ships without processors, memory or drives, allowing you to populate it with the exact components your workload requires. Dual redundant power supplies are included for continuous availability.
This platform fits organisations building dedicated storage arrays, backup targets or software-defined storage clusters where compute density is secondary to capacity. The single-controller architecture simplifies cabling and management for straightforward JBOD or RAID configurations. Buyers needing integrated compute, GPU acceleration or multi-node processing should evaluate alternative chassis designs that include CPU sockets and memory slots.
The chassis uses a single storage controller to manage all twenty-four drive bays, which determines both performance ceiling and failover behaviour. If your design demands dual-controller redundancy or active-active multipathing, this model cannot meet that requirement. Confirm that your RAID or HBA card supports the backplane topology before purchase.

Mount the chassis using the included rail kit, then secure both front and rear mounting screws to the rack posts; the step most often missed is tightening the rear rail brackets after the front screws are in place.
The dual power supplies are hot-swappable modules; plan to replace a failed unit by sliding it out and inserting the spare while the server stays running.
With 24 drive bays populated, the single controller becomes the throughput bottleneck before the dual power supplies reach their capacity.
