Dell 6 TB SAS hard drive

The Dell 400-AHYZ is a 6 TB enterprise-class hard drive with a 3.5-inch form factor. It spins at 7200 RPM and connects through a SAS interface running at 12 Gb/s. The unit ships as a 13GEN kit and is supplied in new condition.

Enterprise storage and compatible servers

This drive suits administrators expanding Dell PowerEdge arrays or RAID volumes that accept 3.5-inch SAS devices. It is not intended for laptops, small-form-factor desktops or systems limited to a different physical interface. Builders needing a 2.5-inch form factor or a non-SAS connection should select another model.

12 Gb/s SAS interface

The single specification that determines fit is the 12 Gb/s SAS interface. The backplane and controller must support this exact SAS signalling rate for the drive to negotiate and operate correctly.

Questions about this item

How often should the 7200 RPM spindle bearings be checked in the 400-AHYZ?

Enterprise-class SAS drives such as the 400-AHYZ use sealed bearings rated for continuous operation; no scheduled bearing maintenance is required during the drive's service life.

Which limit appears first when the 12Gb/s SAS link runs at full tilt on the 400-AHYZ?

The 7200 RPM mechanical throughput reaches saturation before the 12Gb/s SAS interface becomes the bottleneck during sustained transfers.

What is the typical heat output when the 6TB 400-AHYZ spins all day in a 13G server?

The 3.5-inch 7200 RPM mechanism generates moderate heat under constant load; standard server airflow keeps it within normal operating temperature.
