Capacity and Interface

This Dell 400-AJOE is a 6 TB 3.5-inch internal hard drive that uses a SAS 12Gb/s interface and spins at 7200 RPM. It is built for hot-plug installation in compatible Dell PowerEdge servers and carries a new condition. The near-line design targets bulk storage workloads that demand consistent throughput.

Server builders and storage expanders

The drive suits administrators adding capacity to PowerEdge R230, R330 or T330 systems where a SAS backplane and hot-plug bays are already present. It is not for workstations or laptops that lack a SAS controller, nor for arrays that require a different physical form factor or interface protocol.

SAS 12Gb/s host connection

The single specification that decides compatibility is the 12Gb/s SAS interface; the server backplane and controller must support this exact standard for the drive to function. Without a matching SAS link the drive cannot communicate, regardless of capacity or spindle speed.

Questions about this item

Does the Dell 400-AJOE 6 TB drive ship with a mounting bracket or caddy, or must one be purchased separately?

The drive is supplied as a bare 3.5" unit; Dell servers use proprietary hot-plug trays that are sold separately.

Which capacity should I choose if my server only accepts 6 TB near-line SAS drives?

This model is a single 6 TB capacity; no other capacity version exists under part number 400-AJOE.

What does the 7200 RPM spindle speed mean for daily workloads on a PowerEdge R330?

The 7200 RPM rotation gives low latency for random reads and sustained sequential transfers suitable for near-line storage tasks.
