DELL

DELL 400-AMXK 6TB 7200 RPM SAS 3.5" internal hard drive

SKU CH-XA49-CQN54 MPN 400-AMXK

6 TB 7 200 RPM SAS 3 5 inch enterprise hard drive for high capacity server storage

  • 6 TB capacity stores large datasets
  • 7200 RPM spindle speed delivers fast sequential access
  • SAS 12 Gb/s interface provides high-throughput connectivity
  • 5-inch form factor fits standard drive bays
  • Enterprise-class design built for continuous operation

Enterprise SAS storage

The Dell 400-AMXK is a 6TB enterprise-class hard drive built for servers and storage arrays that require a 12Gb/s SAS interface. It fits standard 3.5-inch bays and spins at 7200 RPM to deliver consistent throughput for mixed workloads.

Thermals and power profile

The 7.2K spindle speed keeps heat output and power draw at levels typical for nearline SAS drives in normal operation. Acoustic output remains low enough for rack environments where multiple drives run simultaneously.

Sustained workload behavior

Under continuous read and write activity the drive maintains steady performance without the throughput drops seen in desktop-class units. It is not suited for workloads that demand SSD latency or for systems lacking a SAS controller.

Questions about this item

How do I install the 3.5-inch SAS drive in a Dell 13G server and what step is often missed?

Mount the drive in a 3.5-inch bay, connect the SAS data and power cables, then configure the RAID controller to recognise the new 6TB volume before the operating system will see it.

What maintenance or replacement will the 7200 RPM SAS drive need over its service life?

The mechanical 7200 RPM spindle and SAS interface require no scheduled maintenance; replace the drive only if SMART alerts report reallocated sectors or bearing noise appears.

What limit appears first when the 6TB SAS drive runs sustained write workloads?

The 7200 RPM rotational speed caps the sustained media transfer rate, so sequential throughput plateaus well before the 12Gb/s SAS link saturates.
