8TB SAS drive for servers

This 3.5 inch drive delivers eight terabytes of storage over a 12 Gb SAS interface. It spins at 7.2K RPM and supports hot-swap installation in compatible bays. The unit is supplied new and ready for deployment in Dell systems.

Capacity and headroom

Eight terabytes provides ample space for bulk data, backups and archival workloads. The 7.2K spindle offers steady sequential throughput for streaming reads and writes. Random I/O performance will limit databases or virtualisation workloads that demand low latency. The SAS interface caps at 12 Gb per second, so bandwidth-intensive arrays may saturate the link before the drive reaches its throughput ceiling.

Questions about this item

Will the 12Gb SAS interface work with my existing 6Gb SAS backplane?

Yes, the 12Gb SAS drive negotiates down to 6Gb speeds automatically when connected to an older backplane.

How do I verify the 7.2K RPM drive is healthy after installation?

Check SMART attributes via your RAID controller or OS tools; look for zero reallocated sectors and a passing self-test status.
