Dell 2 TB SAS 6Gb/s 3.5" Hard Drive

The Dell 400-AUWX is a 2 TB internal hard drive with a 7200 RPM spindle speed and a SAS 6Gb/s interface. It uses a 3.5 inch form factor and supports hot-swap operation. The drive is designed to increase storage capacity in compatible Dell systems.

Server and desktop storage expansion

This drive suits administrators adding bulk storage to supported Dell PowerEdge servers such as the R430, R530, R730, T430, T440 and T640. It also fits compatible Dell desktop PCs. Builders needing a different interface or a non-hot-swap mechanical drive should look at other options.

SAS 6Gb/s interface

The SAS 6Gb/s interface is the single specification that decides compatibility. Your system backplane or controller must support this exact interface standard for the drive to function correctly.

Questions about this item

Does my system need a SAS 6Gb/s backplane to install this 3.5" drive?

Yes, the drive connects through a SAS 6Gb/s interface and requires a compatible backplane or controller that supports SAS signalling.

Will this 7200 RPM SAS drive work in a Dell PowerEdge R430 alongside existing SATA drives?

The R430 3.5" bay accepts this drive, but SAS and SATA drives cannot share the same virtual disk; they must be managed in separate arrays.

How can I confirm the drive is recognised at 6Gb/s after installation?

Check the controller BIOS or Dell OpenManage — the drive should appear as a 2 TB SAS device negotiating a 6Gb/s link speed.
