Dell 45W adapter with 7.4mm barrel

This Dell 492-BBWX power adapter supplies up to 45 watts through a 7.4 millimetre DC jack and includes a 4.5 millimetre to 7.4 millimetre dongle for older Dell notebooks. It accepts 120 volt or 230 volt AC input and delivers 20 volt DC at 2.25 amps for the laptop plus 5 volt DC for a USB device. The compact black unit measures 2.2 inches wide by 3.3 inches deep by 0.9 inches high and weighs approximately 4.23 ounces.

Sustained 45 watt output with dual charging

The adapter maintains its full 45 watt rating while simultaneously powering a notebook and a USB mobile device from a single wall socket. Its external brick design dissipates heat without a fan so output remains stable during long work sessions. The cable coils neatly around the rounded body for tidy storage between uses.

7.4 millimetre barrel and included dongle

Compatibility hinges on the 7.4 millimetre output connector; the bundled dongle extends support to Dell systems that require a 4.5 millimetre tip. Buyers whose laptops use USB-C Power Delivery or a different barrel size cannot use this adapter. It is not for devices needing more than 45 watts or a proprietary connector not listed here.

Questions about this item

How much heat or noise does this 45 W adapter produce when left plugged in all day?

The brick has no fan and draws up to 45 W, so it runs silently and stays only warm to the touch under continuous load.

What must I already own to use the included 4.5 mm to 7.4 mm dongle?

You need a Dell notebook or tablet that accepts a 4.5 mm barrel tip; the dongle converts the adapter’s fixed 7.4 mm plug to fit that port.

Will the USB charging port work while my older Dell laptop is asleep or off?

Yes, the adapter supplies 5 V DC at the USB port independently, so phones or tablets charge even when the connected notebook is powered down.
