Adds dual 10 Gbps SFP+ ports over a PCI Express slot for high-speed server networking
The Dell 540-BBDW is a dual-port 10Gbps network interface card built around the Intel X520 controller. It connects through a PCI Express slot in a low-profile form factor, making it suitable for rack-mount servers or compact workstations that need high-throughput wired links.
Two SFP+ cages accept direct-attach copper or fibre transceivers, so the same card can serve short-range copper links or longer fibre runs. The low-profile bracket fits 1U and slimline chassis without blocking adjacent slots, and the plug-in card design requires no external power cables beyond the bus.
Confirm the host system has a free PCI Express slot that can supply the bandwidth the X520 expects, and that the operating system includes or can load the appropriate driver. You must also source compatible SFP+ modules or DACs separately, as none are included with the adapter.
