SKU CH-KWK7-B6ATP MPN 55H49

  • 3 TB capacity stores large datasets
  • 7200 RPM spindle speed delivers quick data access
  • SAS interface provides reliable enterprise connectivity
  • 5 inch form factor fits standard desktop bays
  • Includes caddy for straightforward installation

3 TB SAS drive for servers

This 3 TB SAS drive spins at 7 200 RPM and fits a standard 3.5 inch bay. It is built for Dell PowerEdge servers and compatible storage arrays that use the SAS interface. The included caddy allows direct installation in supported chassis without extra brackets.

Replaces smaller SAS or nearline SATA drives

Moving from a 1 TB or 2 TB SAS spindle to this 3 TB model adds capacity without changing cabling or backplane infrastructure. The upgrade is worthwhile when a RAID set or JBOD volume needs more raw space and the controller already supports 3 TB LUNs.

Suits admins expanding Dell SAS storage

Administrators who run Dell PowerEdge systems with SAS backplanes and need additional 3 TB spindles will find this drive a direct fit. Buyers who require SATA-only connectivity, 2.5 inch form factor, solid-state media or capacities above 3 TB should look at other product lines.

Questions about this item

Will the 3.5" SAS drive with included caddy fit a standard 3.5" drive bay?

Yes, the 3.5 inch form factor matches standard desktop bays and the supplied caddy secures it in Dell chassis that use the F4 tray design.

What is the correct way to connect the SAS interface on the ST3000NM0023 mechanism?

Attach a SAS cable to the drive's data port and a separate power connector; the common error is trying to plug it into a SATA-only controller which will not recognise the drive.

How long can the 7200RPM 3TB mechanism run before bearing wear becomes likely?

Enterprise-class 7200 RPM drives such as the ST3000NM0023 are rated for continuous operation, so replacement is typically driven by capacity needs rather than a fixed hour limit.
