Dell Constellation ES.3 3TB SAS drive

This Dell Constellation ES.3 drive provides 3000GB of storage in a 3.5in form factor. It spins at 7200RPM and connects through a SAS 6Gb/s interface with a 128MB cache. The unit ships new with a PowerEdge server caddy included.

Suited for PowerEdge servers needing 3.5in SAS bays

The drive fits the listed PowerEdge models including R310, R320, R410, R415, R420, R510, R515, R520, R610, R620, R710, R720, R720xd, T310, T320, T410, T420, T610, T620 and T710. It is not for systems that lack a 3.5in SAS 6Gb/s backplane or that require a different physical interface.

The SAS 6Gb/s interface decides compatibility

Your server or controller must support 3.5in SAS drives at 6Gb/s to use this unit. The 128MB buffer and 7200RPM speed are secondary to the interface match. Verify the backplane and controller specifications before purchase.

Questions about this item

Will the 6Gbps SAS interface work with an older 3Gbps SAS backplane in my PowerEdge R410?

The drive uses a 6Gbps SAS interface and is listed as compatible with the PowerEdge R410, so it will operate at the backplane's 3Gbps speed.

How can I verify the 128MB cache and 7200RPM speed are recognised after installation?

Check the drive details in the RAID controller BIOS or the operating system's device manager; both should report 128MB cache and 7200RPM.

Does the 55H49 part number include the 3.5" caddy for a PowerEdge T610, or must I order it separately?

The supplier title states the drive includes a PowerEdge servers caddy/tray, so the 3.5" bracket for the T610 is supplied.
