Dell SAVVIO 900GB 10K SAS Drive

The Dell SAVVIO 8JRN4 is a new 2.5-inch internal hard drive with a 900GB capacity and a 10000 RPM spindle speed. It connects via a 6Gbps SAS interface and includes a 64MB cache buffer. The unit ships with a PowerEdge server caddy for direct installation into compatible drive bays.

Suits 2.5-inch SAS bays needing 10K speed

This drive fits servers and arrays that accept 2.5-inch SAS drives and benefit from 10000 RPM performance. It is not for systems that only support 3.5-inch form factors or interfaces other than SAS. Buyers needing larger capacities or solid-state endurance should consider different storage types.

6Gbps SAS interface determines compatibility

The drive uses a SAS connection running at 6Gbps, so the host controller or backplane must support this exact interface. A 64MB cache assists burst transfers but the SAS link is the single specification that decides whether the drive will function in a given system.

The SAS 6Gbps link sets the maximum bus throughput, while the 10000 RPM platters and 64MB cache determine sustained read and write speeds.

What physical space and mounting does the 2.5 inch SFF drive need?

It fits a standard 2.5 inch SFF bay and ships with a Dell PowerEdge caddy tray that secures it in the server chassis.

How is the drive installed, and which step is often missed?

Mount the drive into the supplied caddy tray first, then slide the complete assembly into the hot-swap bay until the latch clicks.
