Dell 900 GB SAS enterprise drive

This 900 GB 2.5 inch SAS hard drive spins at 10 000 rpm and mounts in a genuine Dell hot-swap caddy. It is built for 24/7 duty cycles in Dell PowerEdge servers and storage arrays. The drive is not intended for desktop PC use. Compatibility covers a wide range of PowerEdge rack, tower and blade models.

Sustained enterprise workloads

Enterprise-grade firmware and mechanical design keep throughput steady during continuous read-write streams rather than short bursts. The 6 Gb/s SAS interface maintains consistent bandwidth across multi-drive arrays. Drives are selected to Dell specifications from WD, Seagate or HGST platforms for predictable latency under heavy queue depths.

Thermals and power in normal use

The small-form-factor chassis fits standard Dell drive bays and draws power directly from the backplane. Active airflow in Dell servers keeps the drive within thermal limits during 24/7 operation. Acoustic output is managed by the server’s fan curves rather than the drive itself.

Questions about this item

How loud and hot does the 900GB 10K 2.5 SAS drive get during 24/7 server duty?

The drive is built for 24/7 cycle duty in Dell servers and arrays, so it runs at enterprise-grade acoustics and thermals inside the genuine Dell hot-swap caddy.

What must my server already have to accept this 900GB 10K 2.5 SAS drive in its Dell caddy?

A 2.5-inch SAS hot-plug bay and a backplane that supports 6 Gb/s SAS — the drive ships in a genuine Dell tray that slides straight into compatible PowerEdge and PowerVault chassis.

Will this 900GB 10K 2.5 SAS drive work alongside older 6 Gb/s SAS drives already in my Dell array?

Yes — it uses the same 6 Gb/s SAS interface and Dell caddy form factor as earlier enterprise drives, so it mixes cleanly in supported PowerEdge and PowerVault systems.
