2.5 inch SAS hard drive with silver metal casing

DELL

DELL 900GB 2.5" SAS 10K Internal Hard Drive

SKU CH-C2R8-DPJ3C

900 GB of 10 000 RPM SAS storage in a 2.5 inch form factor for enterprise workloads

  • 900 GB capacity stores large data sets
  • 10 000 RPM spindle speed speeds up access
  • SAS interface provides reliable enterprise connectivity
  • 5 inch form factor fits dense server bays
  • New condition ensures full manufacturer reliability

Capacity and interface

The Dell 900GB 2.5" SAS drive is built for servers and storage arrays that need fast, reliable spinning media. It suits administrators who want 10K RPM performance on a 6 Gbit SAS bus without moving to solid state.

Thermals noise and power

Spinning at 10K RPM, the drive generates measurable heat and audible seek noise under sustained load; plan for active airflow in the bay. Power draw follows typical 2.5" enterprise SAS figures during normal operation.

Upgrade path and fit

This unit replaces failed or lower-capacity 2.5" SAS drives in existing Dell trays and backplanes. The jump is worthwhile when you need more space at 10K speed and the chassis already supports 6 Gbit SAS.

Questions about this item

How do I install this 2.5" SAS drive in a standard 3.5" drive bay and which step is commonly missed?

Mount the drive in a 2.5" to 3.5" adapter bracket, secure it with four screws, then connect both the SAS data cable and the power cable; the step often missed is attaching the power connector.

What maintenance or replacement will this 900GB 10K SAS drive need over time?

Mechanical 10K rpm drives can develop bearing wear or bad sectors after years of continuous operation; plan to replace the unit once SMART reallocated-sector counts rise or unusual noise appears.

What performance limit appears first when this 6G SAS drive runs sustained workloads?

The 6 Gbit/s SAS interface caps maximum sustained throughput, so sequential read or write speeds will plateau at the interface ceiling before the 10K platters become the bottleneck.
